Well the invites have officially been sent out and I am now crafting my heart out for the next few weeks until my youngest son Eli’s 1st birthday party on January 26th. The party is an Up, Up and Away balloon theme incorporating mint green, light aqua and shimmery gray. I have some fabulous vendors on board to help bring the vision for the party to life, including Divine Cakes, Inc., Frog Prince Cake and Cookie Design, Mia Mallows and Peckled. I seriously can not wait to see it all come together!
Although I can’t share all of the party details just yet, I’ve decided to share a little tutorial on DIY Upcycled Frames. I’m a big fan of incorporating personal touches in all of my events, so I wanted to display some pictures of Eli in frames at his party that coordinate with the rest of the decor. This was a quick and easy project and I was thrilled with the results.
- Frames (I used two unfinished wooden craft frames and two metal frames that were around my house and no longer being used)
- Desired acrylic paint colors
- Foam paint brushes
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Painters tape
- Exacto knife
For the chevron frame, I started by tracing a small triangle along the bottom of the frame. I think mine was about an inch and a half wide and an inch tall.
Then I taped off the triangles and used an exacto knife and a straight edge to trim the edges of the tape to ensure the corners were precise.
I used the width of the tape to mark off the next chevron stripe and repeated this until the entire frame was taped with the pattern. I painted the frame with gray/silver paint and then let it dry completely before removing the tape. I did have to do some touch ups with white paint after the tape was removed, but overall I was pleased how well the pattern came out with the tape alone.
I also did a simple diagonal striped frame. No measurements required on this one. I literally just stuck the tape on in a diagonal line and used the width of the tape to space out the lines until the frame was covered in the pattern. Then I painted the frame using colors that match the party decor. I also painted two metal frames in a solid color to offset the patterned frames.
And here is the finished product!
This is just a little preview of what you can expect in Eli’s Up, Up and Away birthday party. I will be sharing more sneak peeks as the party gets closer, so be sure to like my Facebook page to follow along!
