Today’s post is brought to you by Erin Ollendike, the National Sales Director at BBJ Linen who is sharing tips on how to use black in your winter events.
Here’s what Erin has to say…..
There’s a reason the “little black dress” has never gone out of style. It’s the same reason that formal events call for black tuxedos: the color black is undoubtedly linked to elegance.
Using black for events, especially winter events, offers a great opportunity to create a sophisticated and elegant mood that is fitting for a variety of events including galas, holiday parties and more. It also offers a spectrum of elegance, from a few touches of black to full on black for an impactful look that can’t be missed.
Here are different ways to use black for your winter event that will inspire you to incorporate a little black (or a lot) for your next event.
Go Classic: Black and Creams

Just as little black dresses pair great with pearls, black and cream combinations create a rich and luxurious combination for any event. Pairing this classic combination adds drama to any venue or setting – from the ultra rustic to formal. The contrast of black with white or cream accents draws the eyes and epitomizes elegance in all its splendor. Additional accents of gold complete the look for a classic, upscale design.
Sparkle in the Dark: Go for Texture and Shine

Black may seem flat as a color, but it doesn’t have to be. Opt for black fabrics or accents that sparkle and shine for a truly unique look that add a unique twist on a formal color. Textured fabrics and elements of shine are eye magnets and elevate the entire décor into something unique and playful while still being formal. Accentuate the sparkle with metallic or bold, deep hues for a unique and inviting look.
Go Bold: Full on Black

Black always is a star, no matter what color you pair it with, but using black alone can establish an elegant mood and allow guests and other elements to take center stage for a very dramatic look that is sure to impress.
Don’t be afraid to play with textures for a creative twist on basic black. Take cues from the venue and furnishings like leather couches and wood, and emphasize these smooth and shiny textures with textured table linen, napkins, runners, and other table décor for an ultra-dramatic look that is fitting for the most elegant of events!
Play with Patterns

Winter events call for elements of warmth. Patterns are a great way to make your design cozy and inviting. Take classic patterns like houndstooth and herringbones and incorporate them into your design with other classic holiday and winter colors like reds, deep teals and blues, or even hot pinks for a playful twist on classics.
Be Daring with Gold and Black

If you’re looking for a daring and rich combination, you can’t go wrong with gold and black. Set the bar high for elegance with this due of formal favorites. Contrast of black and gold is as opulent as a string of pearls on black silk. The combination is never stark, and the abundance of gold reinforces tradition and class, even as it softens the contrast.
Pair this with dramatic florals in white and gold flatware and drinkware for a truly bold look.
Not only does black elevate an event in formality, but it also provides a classic elegance that is perfect for framing all other elements of an event. Planning a winter event? Play with black and test the possibilities this versatile, classic color can offer for your event.
