The summer season means warmer weather, no school, pool days and outdoor picnics! A family picnic is such a great way to detach from electronic devices, spend time together and enjoy the outdoors.
This Farm Fresh American Picnic was simple to plan and gave this adorable family of five the opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime! See below for my tips on how to plan your own summer picnic.
- Choose your location. My go-to spot for a family picnic is usually a park with an open field for the kids to run and play. However, every now and then I like to change it up so we can experience something new. This picnic took place on a farm just outside of Cleveland, which was not only picturesque, but also gave this family the opportunity to interact with real farm animals!
- Plan a fresh and seasonal menu. A picnic doesn’t always have to include boring sandwiches. Instead, I put together a simple, farm fresh charcuterie board with a few types of cheeses, meats, crackers and grapes. I also made sure to pick up some French baguettes, fresh watermelon and ripe strawberries to serve too.
- Stay hydrated. I am pretty sure that lemonade and picnics go hand-in-hand. I packed some fresh lemonade, sliced lemons and a few mason jars for the kiddos to use for their beverages. The adults enjoyed one of my favorite rosé, Summer Water. It is crisp and light, and perfect to pair with a seasonal charcuterie board.
- Pay attention to detail. One way to take your picnic from ordinary to extraordinary is to pay attention to detail. I styled this picnic with a blue gingham blanket, a vintage rattan picnic basket, blue striped linen napkins and dusty blue hydrangeas. I also brought along a few extra wooden boxes to use for food and beverages.
- Let them be little. Remember that picnics are meant to be messy, clothes can be washed and those sticky little fingers may not be so eager to share a picnic with you one day! There is no use in planning the perfect summer picnic if it can’t be fully enjoyed. Make sure to soak up the moment and use this time to make memories with your family!
