As New Year’s Eve quickly approaches, I am starting to come up with ideas on how to make it a special night with my family. Truth be told, even if it were a normal year, this is how I would have chosen to spend this holiday anyways! But for those of you who are altering your normal NYE plans for a quiet night at home instead, just know that there are still ways to make it special. Keep in mind that this is a perfect time to use some of the Vanilla Gift Visa gift cards that you might have received for Christmas to add some special touches for your NYE celebration.
Here are my tips on how to make it a memorable New Year’s Eve at Home this year.
Add festive decorations. It is amazing how a few inexpensive decorations can completely transform a space and instantly make it feel more festive. I like to swing by our local party store to pick up some balloons, party hats and party horns for New Year’s Eve. If you have kids, you can involve them in making a New Year’s Eve banner or cutting homemade confetti too.
Get dressed up. I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I’ll take any excuse to get dressed up, even if it is to simply watch the ball drop on TV in my own living room! As a mom of two, I don’t have many reasons to get dressed up anymore, so why not take this opportunity to throw on a pretty dress and get a few nice photos with our family to remember the night. Of course this is a personal preference, so for anyone who wants to spend the night in loungewear, then have at it!
Order (or cook!) your favorite meal. I like to try to plan a special meal for our family on New Year’s Eve. On some years, we might order an Italian feast from a local restaurant, and on other years, like this one, we will make an array of our favorite appetizers that we can graze on throughout the night. The key is to plan a meal that you don’t eat on a regular basis so it feels more special.
Play a new game. Both of my boys are entering their tween years, so we ordered a new escape room game that we can play together as a family on New Year’s Eve. I love that it is a type of game that we have never played before and that we will have to work together to solve the puzzle, while also making memories as a family.
Toast with confetti at midnight. We plan to let our boys stay up way past their bed time so we can watch the ball drop at midnight together as a family. Our boys love to make a mess of our living room by tossing confetti and running around with noise horns, while we mostly just laugh at their crazy antics. It is a simple tradition, but thankfully one that will still be able to continue in these crazy times.
Thank you Vanilla Gift for sponsoring this post and for making the prep for my at home New Year’s Eve celebration so effortless with your Visa gift cards that can be used anywhere, and on anything. I’m sure like many of you, I am happy to say farewell to 2020, and I am looking forward to the fresh start that the New Year will bring. Happy New Year and wishing you all the best in 2021!
