There is something truly magical about the holiday season! I love nothing more than adding holiday cheer throughout our home to welcome and entertain family friends during this time of year.
When decorating for the Christmas season, I like to pick a new color scheme each year to keep it fresh. While many of our traditional decorations, such as faux greenery garlands, Christmas trees, and other little signs and accents are repurposed, the color scheme helps determine the direction for the tree ornaments, ribbons, accent pillows and other new decorative items I add to our collection each year. This year I chose a neutral, earthy color scheme with pops of burnt orange and rust.
Our 9 ft Christmas tree is the focal point of our family room, and was covered in tan, cream and aged copper ornaments, along with DIY dried orange slices and rust ribbon accents. Our staircase is draped with a 20 ft faux cedar garland, tied with rust ribbon bows and truly is a wow factor next to our stacked stone fireplace. Other family room accents include knit stockings, seasonal art, a wooden Christmas countdown sign, a large window wreath, rust colored accent pillows, plaid throw blankets, sleigh bells, reindeer figurines and more.
To continue the earthy decor theme throughout the house, I added a few seasonal accents to our kitchen, including a faux cedar wreath and garland above our stovetop, a dried orange slice garland, wooden holiday signs, a seasonal candle and some bud vases filled with festive greenery. When my husband and I were designing our home, we debating on whether or not to add a decorative wooden mantel above our stove, and now I am so glad we did because it is one of my favorite places to decorate for each holiday!
Adjacent to our kitchen is our breakfast room, which I set with a simple rust plaid tablecloth, brown leather chargers, classic white dinnerware and aged copper mugs. I kept the centerpiece simple with a few sprigs of fresh cedar greenery down the center of the table, accented with copper votive candles and a few wooden Christmas tree figurines.
I absolutely love how easy entertaining is in our Ashlawn floorplan with the family room, kitchen and breakfast rooms all connected, and that I don’t have to miss a beat with my guests if I am finishing up cooking or cleaning in the kitchen! This year I plan to host a small holiday brunch where guests will be in and out as their schedules allow. I plan to keep the menu simple with a homemade cinnamon coffee cake, and a charcuterie board filled with a variety of muffins, gourmet pastries, nuts, and fresh fruit. I love that all of these items can be prepared ahead of time, and simply set out once guests arrive.
Of course, no brunch is complete without some bubbly, so I used my built-in wine bar to set-up a mimosa station filled with prosecco, sparkling water, and variety of fresh juices and fruit for guests to mix their cocktail (or mocktail) to their liking.
Last, but not least, I added a few seasonal touches to our front porch including a classic greenery door wreath and mini faux Christmas trees to flank our front door. I also displayed on a wooden “Believe” and added a few rust-colored accent pillows on our front porch chairs.
We are looking forward to spending the holidays at home this year, and are so thankful to Drees Home for making these memories possible in our new home!
