The holiday season is finally upon us! With so many uncertainties in 2020, I am so happy that the Christmas season is one constant that is sure to come no matter what else is happening around us. Yes, the holidays might look a little different this year, but at the heart of it all, we will still find ways to celebrate with loved ones, whether from a distance or in small quarantine family pods.
I am looking forward to brightening the day of many family members who I may not be able to see this year by mailing them a thoughtful gift with fun gift wrapping. So as I am making my holiday shopping list today, I thought I would take the time to share a few tips on how to wrap holiday gifts like a pro.
1. Pick a color scheme. One of the staples of my color pallets for gift wrapping each year usually starts with a solid color. I personally love using rolls of kraft paper because it is inexpensive, and also provides a great neutral background to decorate with various embellishments. It is also easy to source other wrapping papers in other colors and patterns to coordinate with kraft paper.
2. Mix in different kinds of packaging options. Hint, not all presents need to be wrapped in paper! Depending on the gift, and the age range of the person receiving the gift, this is an area to get creative with gift wrapping. While I usually wrap my gifts for younger kids, I love to put together open gift boxes and baskets for adult recipients. It is a great way to gift a Vanilla Gift Card by including it in a gift basket along with other small items to make a wow-worthy present.
3. Top with a ribbon, bow or twine. Now for the fun part! Adding decorative layers to your gift wrapping is what truly personalizes it and makes it stand out. When you pick your color scheme for your gift wrapping, I recommend picking up several different kinds of coordinating ribbon or twine to tie on the packaging. This will also give you a place to secure any extra embellishments and a tag.
4. Add a decorative accent. This is where you can think outside of the box when it comes to gift wrapping. Decorative accents can include items such as fresh greenery, a mini ornament, a candy cane, a jingle bell, or even a Vanilla Gift Card! The sky is really the limit when it comes to accents, so keep a look out in places such as the grocery store or even dollar store for little items that could work well for decorative gift wrapping accents.
5. Finish with a personalized label. Finally, top your wrapped gift with a personalized gift tag. Gift tags have come a long way since the day of the stickers we used to use as a kid! I personally love to search the internet for printable gift tags, which are inexpensive (or many times free!) and much more creative than store bought gift tags. Other ideas for labels include using a monogram letter, or hand lettering a cardstock tag for a truly elevated touch.
I hope you enjoyed reading my gift wrapping tips! I would love to hear any tips you might have for creative gift wrapping too, so please feel free to share in the comments below. Thank you Vanilla Gift for sponsoring this post today, and for making my holiday gift shopping for loved ones so easy this year. Happy holidays everyone!

Here’s our trick from the pros: Double-sided tape is your secret weapon for a neat seam. Stock up on a bulk package of rolls now you’ll use them all before December 25. Place the box facedown on top of your gift wrap, leaving the paper attached to roll. Use scissors to cut paper along one side, making a wide enough sheet to cover both sides of the box.
