It is FINALLY starting to feel like summer here in Cleveland. The month of May was filled with an insane amount of rain, but the sun is starting to shine more often and the temperatures have warmed up, so I am more than ready for outdoor summer entertaining!
A few weeks ago, I was asked to help style the cover of the June issue of Cleveland Magazine. The cover was for their annual “Rating the Suburbs” issue and their editor was looking for a quintessential suburban home with a spacious and inviting porch for the project. With models and a photographer already hired, time was of the essence to find a space for the cover image shoot. After exhausting all of my contacts, I was put in touch my neighbor a few houses down who generously allowed us to use her porch and backyard for the shoot.
Once the space was secured, I got to work nailing down a concept for the styling props. Since the cover was for a summer issue, I decided to pull in bright citrus details, which added the perfect pop of color to an already gorgeous space. The first vignette I styled was a seating area under the porch, which I accented with bright lime, yellow and coral pillows and an abundance of greenery, hanging ferns, plants and potted flowers. I also added citrus infused water, bright napkins and a bowl of fresh fruit to the conversation table to help the space look lived in and inviting for the photos.
As an alternate photo location, I also styled a summer citrus inspired tablescape. This tablescape came together effortlessly with basic everyday tableware, accented with rattan placemats, lemon yellow napkins and colorful chair cushions. I created a simple table runner with Italian ruscus greenery overlaid with fresh citrus, both whole and cut in half. I actually sourced all of the citrus, including grapefruit, oranges, blood oranges, lemons and limes, from my local Walmart for under $20, which I thought was a steal!
Thank you Cleveland Magazine for the amazing opportunity to style for the June cover issue!
