It’s hard to believe that the holiday season is already upon us! It is rare for my two active boys to slow down long enough for us to take a good family photo, which is why I am thankful that we make a point to do professional family photos this time of year. This is the fourth year that we’ve been fortunate enough to work with Brittany Gidley Photography to capture our family and as always, she made this such a fun experience for us!
For the longest time I couldn’t make up my mind on what I wanted to do for pictures this year. We’ve taken photos on the beach for the last two years, and the year before that, we did a Baseball Dream Session (which my boys still talk about to this day). On the eve of Cleveland’s first snow fall, I quickly emailed to see if Brittany’s team had availability to schedule my family that weekend at a Christmas tree farm! It was 20 degrees outside and oh-so windy, but I am glad we powered through the elements because the photos are pure magic!
In keeping with the location (and the freezing temperatures outside!), we had to bundle up for the photos. My boys wore collared sweaters with navy and black jackets and I went with a plain white long sleeve t-shirt layered with a plaid scarf and a cream coat. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to pull together our outfits with just a few days’ notice.
I wanted our photos to have an interactive element, so Brittany’s dream team helped me set-up a Christmas tree decorating scene, complete with hand strung popcorn garlands, ornaments and REAL presents for my boys. I used red as the accent color of the shoot, which I incorporated through the decorations, ribbon on the presents, as well as my winter accessories.
Once my photos came back, I turned to Shutterfly to find a Christmas card design that would complement our photos this year. I love the simplicity of the Whispy Merry Christmas card, which is festive, yet still allows the photos to be the focal point of the card.
From my family to yours, I hope you have a joyous holiday season with your family this year!
