Get your maracas ready, because today I am sharing the details from the Chic Floral Fiesta that I recently hosted with Black Twine, as seen on Martha Stewart! While I don’t necessarily need a reason to entertain, holidays such as Cinco de Mayo provide the perfect excuse to throw a party! I decided to invite a few of my closest girlfriends together for a fiesta that I hosted in a gorgeous industrial venue with soaring windows and ceilings. I’ve found that a great way to personalize a popular party theme is to use unexpected colors, so I went with an all-white color pallet with pops of mint green and pink to give the party a modern, feminine Mexican vibe.
To fully bring the fiesta theme to life, I started by planning the menu for the party, which included mini tacos, avocado and fire roasted corn crostini and a large salsa and guacamole tray. The food display table became a focal point of party, and provided the perfect opportunity for guests to mingle and grab appetizers at their leisure. To help tie in the party theme, I added a white balloon garland backdrop, papel picado banners, a hand lettered fiesta sign and fresh florals and cacti.
Of course no fiesta is complete with bebidas, so I decided to serve two signature cocktails to complement the Mexican-themed menu. Guests could choose from a classic margarita or paloma, both of which were created with Casamigos Blanco Tequila and fresh squeezed juices. There is something about a classic margarita that just feels so right at a Cinco de Mayo party! And I love that the paloma offered an alternative to guests who prefer something less sweet.
Once the menu and signature cocktails were set, I then focused on sourcing decor and styling a tablescape with traditional Mexican details. With hosting the party in a large industrial space, I knew I needed to bring in some warmth, so I decided to use a wooden farmhouse table that I contrasted with modern white chairs, a white papel picado table runner and lush pink floral arrangements.
The tabletop was easily one of my favorite elements to style for the fiesta. Each place setting included white lace porcelain plates, modern white and gold flatware, abstract mint green napkins, mini piñata favors, cactus cookies and hand lettered maracas. But the true show stopper of the tablescape was a trio of floral arrangements that included protea, coral charm peonies, watermelon ranunculus, garden roses, willow eucalyptus and foraged greenery.
I love ending a party with something sweet, so I sourced a hand-painted vanilla buttercream cake, which not only tasted delicious, but added to the party décor as well. I also served cactus sugar cookies and gourmet margarita and paloma gummy candies from Sugarfina, which coordinated with the signature cocktails perfectly.
