Today, I am excited to feature a party that was hosted in honor of my nephew Joseph, aka. Joe B who recently celebrated a huge milestone in his life, his First Communion! I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to style this intimate celebration with his family’s closest friends and family.
The vision for this party was fresh and vibrant with a modern chevron twist. Joe B. has such a vibrant personality so I wanted to bring that out in the party décor. I also wanted to be sure the color scheme was masculine, yet still age appropriate for an 8 year old, which is how I landed on the royal blue and lime green color scheme.
The focal point of the party was the dessert table, which was so much fun to style! There was a small round cake by Viso’s Bakery displayed in the middle of the table on top of white ceramic cake stand accented with lime green ribbon. The cake included a royal blue and lime green cross on the top, with a blue beaded trim on the top and bottom of the cake.
On either side of the cake, there were clear 6 clear gumball favor tubes filled with lime green and pearl white shimmer gumballs, tied with a blue chevron favor tag and blue satin ribbon. These were definitely a hit with Joe B.’s friends at the party!
There were also a dozen cupcakes, also from Visio’s Bakery, wrapped with custom cupcake wrappers and topped with personalized cupcake toppers. The cupcakes were displayed on two elevated boxes wrapped in lime green wrapping paper and royal blue ribbon.
To tie everything together, I created an adorable blue chevron and lime green “God Bless Joseph” banner that hung above the table. To ensure the banner would stand out against a busy painting behind the table, I layered strips of white crepe paper behind it which provided a perfect backdrop. This was a last minute improve while putting the table together, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the way it turned out.
Other details of the party included 6 large tissue pom poms in bright blue, lime green and white, which were hung on either side of the dessert table. There was also a blue chevron table runner on the food display table, and blue striped straws with personalized flags on the drinks table.
My goal was to step outside the box to create a celebration appropriate for a First Communion, but still fun and funky enough for an 8 year old boy. I think this was achieved through the bold chevron pattern, unique favors and vibrant color scheme.
Congratulations on your First Communion Joe B! We love you!
