I love finding ways to make memories together as a family for holidays, so when it came time to figure out what to do for Father’s Day this year, the idea of planning a backyard picnic came easily. To make the picnic a little more special, my boys and I decided to give it a baseball theme and include all of dad’s favorite things.
We kept things simple by setting up the picnic in our own backyard with blankets, pillows and sports gear found around our house. We also went for a no fuss meal including sandwiches from a local deli, fresh watermelon, potato chips and classic coca cola bottles.
My boys wanted to surprise dad with a baseball themed gift to go along with the picnic, so we put together a gift basket with game day favorites like sunflower seeds, Big League Chew, peanuts, Cracker Jacks, Topps baseball cards, Bertman Original Ballpark Mustard and a Vanilla Gift Card. My boys took so much pride in selecting little items for their dad’s baseball themed gift basket, which may have had something to do with the fact that they knew dad would share the bubble gum and baseball cards with them!
After we finished eating lunch and giving dad his gift, we ended the afternoon with a game of catch. It truly was a memorable Father’s Day and so simple to put together. And what’s even more special is that I know the Vanilla Gift Card will be a gift that keeps on giving since it can be used everywhere and on anything. If I had to bet, dad will most likely use his Vanilla Gift card to treat the family to a major league baseball game later this summer where we’ll get to make even more memories together as a family!
If you are looking for something fun and creative to do for Father’s Day this year, I highly recommend planning backyard picnic! Here are a few tips on how to make a picnic for dad extra special.
- Chose a theme that incorporates dad’s favorite things! Whether it is a sport like baseball that can be played during the picnic, or perhaps fishing where the family can picnic by a lake, the possibilities are endless. Having a theme also helps to give you direction for pulling in a few decorative details too!
- Look around your house for a cozy blanket, a few pillows and a mini table to set with food and decor. Pro tip: If you don’t have a low table, use a large Amazon box and throw a tablecloth over it!
- Plan a no fuss menu to keep the picnic as stress free as possible so you can focus more on making memories with dad instead.
- Get the kids involved. Let the kids help set up the picnic and pick out small gift items for dad. It is so fun to see them take pride in creating something special for dad.
- Make sure to plan at least one outdoor activity to get everyone involved during the picnic, whether it is a game of catch, putting contest, fishing, frisbee or more.
Thank you Vanilla Gift for sponsoring this post and helping to make our Father’s Day picnic so special!
