When my girlfriend Victoria Rullo, first approached me about styling her little girl Alexis’ first birthday party, my mind immediately started racing in a thousand different directions. After all, as a mom of two boys, it isn’t every day I get to throw a party for a little girl. Victoria had a pretty clear vision on what she wanted for Alexis’ party – a Little Ladybug theme with sweet sunflower accents.
We started by pulling together a little ladybug inspiration board which was featured on One Stylish Party a few weeks ago. After pouring over color schemes and variations of ladybug parties, we decided to go with red and white polka dots, preppy lime green stripes and pops of sunflower yellow. I wouldn’t ordinarily think that these colors and patterns would work well together, but when it was all said and done, I absolutely feel in love with the color palette and overall look and feel of the party décor.
Now for the details of the party:
Victoria and Stephen Rullo welcomed their second child and first daughter, Alexis Maria Rullo, into their family on September 14, 2011. She has rightfully taken over her place as the little lady of their house, so a sweet “Little Ladybug” birthday party seemed like a perfect fit.
The birthday party was an intimate celebration with close family, so we brought the theme to life with a few special decorations without going too over the top. The decorations included a personalized, hand-ruffled ladybug banner and welcome sign. Large red tissue pom poms framed either side of the party banner and a bright and cheery bunting banner accented Alexis’ high chair. The party table featured 5” printable ladybug centerpieces anchored in a mason jar filled with lime green shimmer gumballs and silk sunflowers. There was also a grassy little ladybug plant that sat in the center of the table.
One of my personal favorite elements of the party was an adorable birthday cake featuring a fondant sunflower topped with a larger than life little ladybug created by Aliscia Moore. The details of this cake were absolutely spectacular in person and really helped set the tone for the party. Aliscia also crafted matching sunflower cupcakes made out of Oreos and yellow buttercream frosting topped with M&M ladybugs. Plus, Alexis had her own smash cake to dig into after we sang happy birthday!
To tie together the theme, the party supplies included: a lime green and white table runner, red and white polka dot plates and cups, lime green plastic silverware, and adorable sunflower napkins. And last but not least, we can’t talk about Alexis’ first birthday party without making mention of her adorable tutu birthday outfit, custom made by Lala Bird Boutique.
From the theme, to the cake, to the smile on little Alexis’ face and of course all of the family members who gathered to celebrate this special little lady, the birthday party couldn’t have turned out any more perfect.
