Kentucky Derby is just around the corner, and if you ask me, this historic, and fashion forward race is the perfect excuse to host a gathering to watch the festivities with friends! To celebrate the Kentucky Derby, I decided to put together a playdate for a sweet group of cousins who were able to dress to the nines, snack on donuts and sparkling lemonade and make pretend wagers on which horse would win the race.
The kid-sized tablescape featured place settings with watercolor rose plates by Meri Meri, paired with basic lilac paper plates by Oh Happy Day, modern gold flatware, coral tumblers, purple gingham napkins and gold painted horse figurines and authentic horseshoes. The floral centerpiece was created by using one of my favorite party styling hacks, which includes layering a few bundles of greenery from a grocery store with two dozen garden roses that are trimmed at the head and popped on top on the greenery. It’s so simple, yet looks pulled together and as if a professional florist designed it!
Although I kept the menu simple, I decided to style a small dessert station to give the kiddos a place to grab their treats and refreshments. The dessert table featured mini donuts displayed on the One Stylish Party Tabletop Acrylic Dessert Wall. I love that this modern party prop perfectly blends in with any party theme and allows the treats to take center stage. Above the dessert table, I made a DIY paper prize ribbon backdrop with blush, lilac and coral cardstock. This simple paper craft made for an inexpensive, and impactful decor element to fully bring the party theme to life. Stay tuned, I’ll be sharing how to make these on my blog soon!
The highlight of the party was watching the kiddos play together, and we even let them place friendly pretend bets on which horse would win the race. Let’s just say the giggles were contagious while they were tossing the money around like confetti (but not to worry, no money was lost or damaged in the making of this party!)
I hope you are inspired by the simple tablescape decor, floral centerpiece hack and DIY paper prize ribbon backdrop if you plan to host a Kentucky Derby party this year!
