As always, the party industry continues to evolve and change with each passing year, so today I am sharing my picks for hot party trends in 2017!
BOUTIQUE PAPER PLATES AND TABLEWARE
There is no shortage of cute disposable plates, cups and flatware on the market these days. Paper tableware is an easy and inexpensive way to tie in a party theme and definitely makes clean up a breeze. I especially love the various lines released by Meri Meri, as well the marble and blush gold designs produced by Harlow & Grey. And let’s not forget the adorable line launched by Design Love Fest in collaboration with Cheeky that can be found (for a super reasonable price) at Target.

DRIP CAKES
The drip cake trend originated in Australia and is just starting to gain popularity in the US. There are so many variations of a drip cake and, in my opinion, it is a style of cake that works for any type of event, from a wedding to a dinner party to a kids party and everything in between. My personal favorite is when a drip cake is embellished with macarons, colorful chocolate accents or fresh florals.

LASER CUT SIGNAGE
The calligraphy trend crossed over from the wedding industry a few years ago and it will surely be sticking around for the year ahead. In 2017, we will see more laser cut calligraphy pieces being incorporated into parties, such as large event signage, placecards, cake toppers, drinks stirrers and more.

BALLOON GARLANDS AND ORGANIC BALLOON ARCHES
Balloon garlands and organic balloon arches seem to be popping up just about everywhere these days. House that Lars Built catapulted this trend on to the party scene in 2014 and it has continued to grow in popularity ever since. There are tons of tutorials available online on how to create this high-impact party decoration or you can purchase a DIY Balloon Garland Kit such as this, which includes everything you need to make a balloon garland in a curated color scheme in less than 45 minutes.

THRIFTED GLASSWARE AND DECOR
You don’t have to spend a fortune to pull together a tablescape with unique details that wow your guests. More and more hostesses are turning to their local thrift stores and re-sale sites, such as eBay to source vintage glassware and props that match their party theme.

TEXTURED LINENS
Don’t get me wrong, sequin linens will always have a special place in my heart, but in 2017, you will see sequins taking a step back to make room for textured linens such as velvet and silk chiffon. These luxurious fabrics couldn’t be more different from each other, but both work beautifully in many event designs based on the season, type of party and event venue. Plush velvet fabrics truly make a statement and bring an air of elegance to a party. And if your event has a more airy and ethereal vibe, chiffon linens offer an effortless way to add color without overpowering a tablescape.

FELT LETTER BOARD SIGNS
This new trend has already stolen my heart. It’s sweet, it’s nostalgic and it’s also practical! The possibilities on how to style a felt letter board are literally endless. It is a great way to personalize an event by using it as a welcome sign, to display a message, to share a signature drink recipe and the list goes on and on. I personally love that it can also be used as home decor after a party too!
