I recently hosted a fall harvest dinner party for a group of my closest girlfriends. With the holidays just around the corner, I like to make a point to host an annual party this time of year to spend time with friends before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season officially kicks off.
The party took place in an open field just one block behind my home. While the set-up may have taken a little longer than if I had hosted it in my own backyard, the setting with the beautiful dripping willow trees made the extra work more than worth it.
The color scheme for the tablescape was inspired by a fringed rust napkin, which is on on-trend color for the fall 2018 season. I complemented the deep rust color with soft hues of blush, peach and cream details in a variety of textures to add visual interest to the table.
When I couldn’t find a tablecloth I liked, I went to the fabric store and purchased three yards of fabric in a cream and peach tweed pattern. I love that the fabric added a neutral, yet textured, base for the table which allowed the other details to pop.
Each place setting on the table included a rattan charger, blush dinner plate and gold splatter salad plate, accented with a rust napkin, copper flatware and a copper mug. I also included a mini bread basket party favor on top of each plate that was filled with a homemade mini loaf of pumpkin bread, tied with peach lace ribbon and a hand lettered name tag.
To create the centerpiece, I displayed a large floral arrangement at the center of the table that included peach garden roses, white ranunculus, cream dahlias, ivory roses, eucalyptus leaves and pampas grass. I flanked either side of the floral arrangement with an array of white pumpkins layered over a bed of eucalyptus leaves. I also added in a few bud vases and tea lights set on terracotta saucers to complete the look and add warmth and ambience to the table.
Upon arrival, guests were given the option to choose from a glass of rosé or an apple cider mule to sip on throughout the party. Though many people only associate rosé with the summer season, I think this wine easily transitions into fall, especially if you add a sprig of fresh rosemary to the glass. I served the apple cider mules in a copper mug with a cinnamon stick and fresh apple slice garnish, which added a fun seasonal touch to the party.
The party was more of an informal gathering, so I decided to keep the food simple by putting together a seasonal fall charcuterie board. In addition to filling the 16” round board with cheese, crackers, fruit and nuts, I put thought into the garnish, which really helped to take the board to the next level. The mini pumpkin, fresh figs, rosemary sprigs and chamomile flowers helped to tie in the fall harvest theme and allowed the board to become part of the decor. The best part about serving a charcuterie board at the party was that it could be prepared ahead of time and it fed a crowd!
The dinner party was a fun evening spent sharing delicious food, seasonal cocktails and laughter with a great with a great group of ladies!
