I have a confession to make. I actually wrote this blog post months ago, before the concept for One Stylish Party had even fully formed. I had so much fun throwing Mason’s 2nd birthday that I didn’t want it to end! Now, I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the details with all of you!
My son Mason absolutely LOVES Curious George. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t watch or read about that adorable little monkey getting into mischief. As a mother, it is exciting to see my son start to show strong interests in certain things, so I couldn’t wait for his 2nd birthday so I could throw an entire party dedicated to his favorite monkey – Curious George!
PARTY PRINTABLES
Once I decided on the theme, the next order of business was to find the perfect invitation and party decorations. When I came across this Curious George invitation, I immediately knew it was the one. It stood out to me because of the creative use of Robin’s Egg blue in the color pallet, along with the primary yellow and red that is more commonly associated with Curious George.
I also fell in love with all of the coordinating party printables which included a birthday banner, cupcake toppers, food labels, thank you tags, centerpieces and thank you notes. I also used coordinating printable paper to create cupcake wrappers, mini cake bunting, a pennant banner and a month-by-month photo banner.
VENUE
The party was hosted at Front Street Fountain which recently opened in Media, Pa. The restaurant is an old fashioned soda fountain that serves as a community gathering place for families and friends of all ages. One of the highlights of the restaurant, especially for little ones, is a train that circles the ceiling when you first walk in the door.
The restaurant includes two private rooms that can be rented out for parties, both of which feature kid-sized tables, a flat screen TV and an entire chalkboard wall for the kids to crazy. Not only is the ambiance at Front Street Fountain perfect for a two year old birthday party, but the food is really great too. My favorite feature was the build-your-own ice cream sundae bar!
DESSERT TABLE
Set along a long buffet in the party room, the dessert table was the focal point of the party. This table was an absolute must since guests of all ages were able to enjoy the treats. The table included a variety of red, blue and yellow sweets, along with special Curious George details to tie the party theme all together.
The Candy Dot inspired cake was from Visio’s Family Bakery, topped with a DIY mini cake bunting banner. Three boxes wrapped in coordinating blue and white polka dot paper and ribbon served as pedestals for the cake and cupcakes. On either side of the cake, there were red, yellow and blue colored cupcakes decorated with white butter cream icing and printable cupcake wrappers and cupcake toppers.
The table also included DIY pretzel rods and marshmallow pops, made with candy melts and matching sanding sugar. But the true hit of the party with both kids and adults, were the lollipop sugar cookies. These cookies were another DIY project. I used my own family sugar cookie recipe, and then followed the tutorial from SweetSugarBelle.com to create the cookies. Each sugar cookie lollipop was individually wrapped and placed on a plate for all to enjoy.
Other details of the dessert table included a Mason jar (how fitting?) filled with cherry gumballs, two Curious George books, framed birthday invitation, a Curious George stuffed animal, party favors displayed in a yellow wooden basket and a printable pennant banner above the table.
TABLES & DECOR
The room included four kid sized tables and two long tables for adults. The adult tables were adorned with yellow table covers, a colorful balloon bouquet and two centerpieces. The centerpieces were another DIY project with a 5” printable party circle attached to a dowel rod and placed inside a red Blumebox. Of all the products I came across while planning this party, I think Blumebox was my favorite find. Their product is an adorable, yet inexpensive solution to creating the perfect party centerpieces.
Other decorations included a printable Curious George Birthday banner hung along the chalkboard wall, and a DIY month-by-month photo banner on the opposite wall. There was also a small activity table placed next to the dessert table with Curious George coloring sheets, chalk for the chalk board, a framed Curious George birthday sign and a balloon bouquet.
FAVORS
The kids received small Curious George board books, wrapped in matching blue and white polka dot paper from Birthday Express. All favors were tied with red raffia and included a multi colored swirl lollipop purchased on Amazon and a Curious George favor tag from Lollipop Ink.
